Carol R. Newman has served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Confie since 4/11/2016. Ms. Newman is an action-oriented leader with deep experience in the private and public sectors and all facets of the property and casualty insurance business. For over thirty years, Ms. Newman has served as Chief Legal Officer for major property and casualty companies. During Ms. Newmanās twelve-year tenure at Chicago Insurance Company/Interstate Indemnity Company, she provided legal advice on reinsurance, carrier, MGA, and agent/broker business in the area of underwriting, claims, sales and operations. There she was instrumental in implementing risk purchasing group business and working with the industry and regulators in establishing the laws and regulations associated with this business. She was also SVP of Human Resources while at Chicago/Interstate. From 1998 to 2007, Ms. Newman was the Chief Counsel for various business units at Allianz-Firemanās Fund Insurance Company. Ms. Newman has served as a trusted advisor on compliance, governance, regulatory, corporate, litigation, reinsurance, employment, and workers compensation. She then served in the insurance regulatory practice at Denton, formerly known as Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal before being appointed as General Counsel for the State Compensation Insurance Fund. While there, Ms. Newman led the stabilization of a twenty-billion-dollar company as Acting President and Chief Executive Officer during a time of transition for the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Newman served as Member and Chairman of the IRES Foundation from 1998-2008 and is a Member of the IICF Western Division Board. Ms. Newman earned Bachelorās and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Illinois, and is admitted to practice law in the states of Illinois and California.
